RFID And Bar Code In One Compact, Lightweight Intermec Scanner
Intermec Technologies Corp. today introduced a new handheld scanner (Intermec scanner) that reads bar codes. Intermec scanner The Sabre 1555 simplifies data collection by eliminating the need to have multiple scanners for multiple technologies. With the Intermec scanner Sabre 1555, ADC customers don't have to invest in two distinct sets of equipment to enjoy the advantages of both bar code and RFID tag technology. The lightweight (16 ounces) Intermec scanner is ergonomically designed for easy, comfortable scanning over an entire shift. Intermec's Data Collection PC and Data Collection Network Computer product lines support the Intermec scanner 1555, offering the broadest line of RFID-enabled devices available. The 1555 Intermec scanner features a Lithium Ion removable battery. The 1555 Intermec scanner also features EasySet, Intermec's Windows-based scanner configuration software. EasySet allows users to easily construct and print a page of set-up bar codes that users scan to configure one or more Intermec scanners. With EasySet, the scanner is up and running in a matter of minutes. In addition, the Intermec scanner can be reconfigured in real time by the host.
The Intermec Sabre 1555 scanner is part of a new line of RFID products, including readers, printers, scanners and PC cards, recently introduced by Intermec.

Intermec Scanners Support GTIN Data Structures
Intermec Technologies Corp. today announced its bar code scanners support the Global Trade Item Numbering (GTIN) data structure. Intermec ScanPlus and Sabre families of scanners shipped since December 2002 have 14-digit GTIN data transmission capability. In addition, Intermec is offering firmware upgrades to existing Intermec scanner customers. "If you're already working with Intermec your scanners will immediately comply with the new standard," said Dan Bodnar, Intermec director of data capture product marketing. Intermec bar code scanners designed for the retail customer include the ScanPlus and MaxiScan Intermec scanner series for in-store applications and the rugged Sabre Intermec scanner family for distribution center and warehousing environments.

Intermec Grants RFID Patent Licenses to Motorola
Intermec Technologies Corp. announced that Motorola, Inc. has become a licensee under Intermec's patents.
With the addition of Motorola to its group of RFID licensees, Intermec continues to support RFID end users and suppliers by ensuring that the market has an ample supply of high quality, properly licensed equipment from global manufacturers.

Intermec and Cascade Introduce Mobile RFID Forklift Adaptable Load Backrest for Rugged, Industrial Warehouse Use

Intermec Now Shipping SR61 Rugged Handheld Wireless Scanner (Intermec scanner)
Intermec Inc. is now shipping the SR61 scanner, the first scanner available with a choice of all Intermec scanning options. The SR61 provides fast and easy communication with Intermec handheld or vehicle mount terminal products. The SR61 is the first scanner to offer Intermec’s new MEMS laser scan engine.
Intermec’s area imager configuration is available. Intermec’s area imager delivers unmatched motion tolerance and scanning speeds.

Intermec Donates Hardware to University of Arkansas RFID Research Center
“Through this donation, Intermec is helping the University of Arkansas create innovative supply-chain process improvements and advance the adoption and awareness of RFID,” said Dr. Bill Hardgrave, director of the Research Center. “Intermec technology is a valued addition to our advanced research capabilities.” 
Intermec hardware works in conjunction with Microsoft BizTalk RFID, also featured at the lab. Microsoft BizTalk allows RFID devices such as Intermec readers and printers to become fully compatible with the Microsoft platform and integrate with third-party applications and processes.

Intermec Selects Broadcom Wi-Fi® Technology for New Mobile Computers 
Intermec Inc. has selected semiconductor manufacturer Broadcom to supply advanced Wi-Fi® technology for Intermec wireless mobile computers. The addition of Broadcom’s AirForce One Wi-Fi technology optimizes Intermec device security, roaming and interoperability. Meeting Intermec’s high standards for wireless capability, Broadcom’s chipsets also provide device compliance with the latest in Wi-Fi security standards. The Intermec and Broadcom partnership works because both companies have aligned their technologies with what wireless users want.

Intermec Announces Restructuring Plan
Intermec, Inc. today announced a restructuring plan to reduce costs and drive profitability. Intermec expects to take a total pre-tax restructuring charge of $7.6 million to $8.6 million associated with the cost saving initiatives. As part of the restructuring plan, Intermec will be reducing its current worldwide workforce by approximately 9% by the end of the first quarter of 2007. As a result of the restructuring and cost reduction initiatives, Intermec expects to generate annual cost savings of approximately $22 million to $25 million. Intermec also reported its EPS outlook for the fourth quarter of 2006.
